«Every war is a war against children»
Eglantyne Jebb, 1876 - 1928, founder of Save the Children
There have never been as many displaced children as there are today. Nearly 30 million children are currently fleeing war, persecution and extreme poverty. Every day, the conflict in Syria alone drives more than 3,000 children from their homes. These children are in urgent need of protection. This is why Save the Children, the largest independent children’s rights organisation in the world, is building child-friendly spaces in refugee camps, temporary shelters and transit camps around the world.
Children urgently need protection during wars, following natural disasters and in other emergency situations. In Save the Children’s child-friendly spaces, children can find a safe haven and are protected from child trafficking, child labour and other risks. They are provided with psychological and social support and can recover from stressful experiences through play, painting and crafts.
In our child-friendly spaces, refugee children can take part in age-appropriate, supervised play and educational activities or take time out to retreat. This supports children and helps them to build resilience. They can also relax while playing and start to process the experiences they have been through.
Your donation will support our work for the most deprived and marginalized children worldwide, for example by providing children with a safe space where they can finally be just children again. Your donation makes a difference.
Thank you for helping us to help others.
Save the Children is the largest independent children’s rights organisation in the world and is active in 120 countries. We give children a healthy start in life, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm. We do whatever it takes for children – every day and in times of crisis – transforming their lives and the future we share.
